Nature of physical problem:
The program calculates relativistic Coulomb and nuclear excitation cross
sections of electric dipole, electric quadrupole and magnetic dipole
transitions. It is particularly useful in the analysis of experiments
with radioactive beams performed at several cyclotron laboratories
around the world, and also of experiments on excitation of giant
resonances in peripheral relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions.
Method of solution
The time dependent Coulomb +nuclear field of a relativistic projectile
is expanded into multipoles. The nuclear wavefunction is a linear
combination of eigenstates of the intrinsic nuclear Hamiltonian. A set
of coupled equations for the time-dependent excitation amplitudes is
obtained. A four-point Runge-Kutta procedure is used to solve the
coupled-channels equations.
Typical running time
Almost all the CPU time is consumed by the solution of the
coupled-channels equations. It is about 2 min for the inclusion of 5
nuclear states.
